Thoughts Before: I remember this being a fairly standard action movie. I'm not expecting much, but after the last several movies it can't be that bad. I know they used some pretty ugly CGI throughout, and that it doesn't fit the comics very well (though I haven't read those yet, but have been meaning to).  Reasonably speaking though, after Justice League of America, things can only get better from here.

Thoughts After: And I was right! This movie is pretty standard action fare, but that's really all it took to help heal the left over wounds from the last few movies. Sean Connery plays Allan Quatermain (King Solomon's Mines), an expert sharpshooter, who shoots things and at least once headbutts someone! The whole extraordinary league is made up of characters from classic literature, the wife of John Harker, Mina Harker (Dracula) who is now a vampire, the invisible man (The... Invisible Man) who is kind of a dick, Tom Sawyer (The Adventures of.... Tom Sawyer) who is Allan's disciple I guess, Dorian Gray (The Picture of.... Dorian Gray) who repeatedly betrayed the group, Nemo (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea) who provided the Nautilus as transportation and Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde (Strange Case of... Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde) who was just the Hulk in this movie. It kind of felt like Avengers watching it, I mean not as grandiose, but just in general.

I don't really know what the plot of the movie was. Some dude in a mask is doing terrible things, a city explodes, Dorian Gray fucks with everyone, everything is kind of steam punk looking due to being set in 1899 but having pretty fancy technology, some other guy Hyde's out and becomes a Mega Hyde and Mr. Hyde beats him up, Miss Harker turns into bats every so often, Sean Connery talks like this, they win the day. It was alright. The worst part was the ending fight with the just plain awful looking Mega Hyde, like seriously, how do you release this shit? This movie reminds me a lot of Van Helsing, where there's a decent idea, but overuse of bad CGI and some weak writing really holds them back, for me at least. I can't really recommend you go out and see this, but if you catch it, well, at least it's not fucking Justice League of America.
